The University of Calcutta at Kolkata (West Bengal) was founded on January 24, 1857, and is one of the oldest universities in India. Applications are invited in prescribed form for the posts of “Professor (Pay Scale of Rs. 37,400-67,000/- + Academic Grade Pay Rs. 10,000/-)”, “Associate Professor (Pay Scale of Rs. 37,400-67,000/- + Academic Grade Pay Rs. 9,000/-)”, “Assistant Professor (Pay Scale of Rs. 15,600- 39,100/- + Academic Grade Pay Rs. 6,000/-)” in the various Departments in this University as per enclosed list.

Scale of Pay:  Rs.15600- 39100/- AGP: Rs. 6000/-

Qualifications and Experience:

As per U. G. C Notification No. F.3-1/2009, dt. 30.06.2010, (please visit U.G.C. website www.ugc.ac.in for details) notified in Gazette of India on 18th September 2010, U. G. C Notification No. F.1-2/2016 (PS/Amendment) the 4th May 2016, No.F.1-2/2016(PS/Amendment) dated the 11th July 2016 and relevant Memorandum of Higher Education Dept., Govt. of W B. No. 120 – Edn.(U)/1U-91/10, Date: 21.02.2011; W B. No. 121 – Edn.(U)/1U-91/10, Date: 21.02.2011; No. 516-Edn(U)/1U-91/10 Dated Kolkata the 16th May 2017.

Appointments will be made on probation for one year which may be waived or extended in exceptional cases and will be guided by the rules as framed and/or amended from time to time. During or at the end of the period of probation, the service of the Teacher concerned may be terminated with one month’s notice or with one month’s salary in lieu thereof, without assigning any reason thereof. On satisfactory completion of the probationary period, the incumbent concerned will be considered for being confirmed in service. Stipulations in respect of Experience and Age may be relaxed by the Syndicate in the case of exceptionally brilliant candidates on the recommendation of the relevant Selection Committee. The choice of the Selecting Authority need not necessarily be confined only to those who formally apply. Candidates already in employment should apply through proper channel.

Applications (7 copies) in prescribed forms to be downloaded from the University Website and are required to attach a Bank Demand Draft of Rs. 500.00/- (Application fees shall not be charged in case of candidates belonging to the SC/ST, Rs. 250/- for OBC (A), OBC (B) and Physically Challenged candidates) or the US $50 drawn in favour of University of Calcutta, along with the filled-in prescribed forms. Applications should reach the office of the undersigned not later than 14/07/2017.

All relevant information like API (Academic Performance Indicator), etc. required in accordance with the New UGC Regulations No. F.3-1/2009 dt. 30-06-2010, No. F.1-2/2016 (PS/Amendment) the 4th May 2016, No.F.1-2/2016 (PS/Amendment) dated the 11th July 2016 are to be furnished on separate sheets along with supporting documents and to be attached to the application forms. The submission of API by applicants for the post of Assistant Professor be treated as optional for the candidates having no Teaching Experience.

Service conditions as will be notified by orders of the Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal from time to time will be applicable.

Appointment process will strictly abide by the reservation policy of the State Government.

How to Apply: Application in the prescribed format in 7 copies should be sent on or before 14/07/2017 to the Registrar, University of Calcutta, College Street, Kolkata-700073 (West Bengal)

Note: Candidates belonging to the OBC-A & OBC-B categories, whose caste certificates were issued more than one year ago, must produce a ratification certificate from the issuing competent authority that they do not belong to the creamy layer as on the date of advertisement along with copy of the previous certificate to enable this University that for the purpose of reservation including SC/ST, the certificate issued by the competent authority within the state of West Bengal shall only be considered valid. Such certificates issued from other states shall not be considered for the purpose of the reservation. However, such candidates from the other states may apply as unreserved candidates.

Application received after due date and time be rejected summarily. Incomplete applications shall also be treated as canceled and the University Authority shall not be liable to explain any reason in the matter

MERE FULFILLMENT OF ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS DOES NOT ENTITLE A CANDIDATE TO BE CALLED FOR INTERVIEW. ONLY THOSE CANDIDATES WHO WILL BE SHORT-LISTED AFTER SCREENING BY RELEVANT COMMITTEE WILL BE CALLED FOR INTERVIEW.
